Featuring Dr. Amber Krogsrud
What is your name? Dr. Amber Krogsrud.
How old are you? 29 years old.
Where are you from? Minnesota, USA.
What is your background?
I studied biology/pre-med and went straight to medical school at age 22. I tutored at several universities and saw the nutrition/cognition connection. Every day old cells die and new cells are made. It's so pivotal what we consume - from food to supplements to water we drink everyday - as it literally re-makes our new cellular networks. We can use cellular turnover to our advantage! I can show you how.
In a few sentences, tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do.
I am a holistic-medicine focused Naturopathic Doctor in Hollywood, CA. I work with major athletes, high level performers, business owners, famous musicians, fitness trainers and anyone wanting to generally feel better in their daily life. I am skilled at looking over lab results with a functional and preventative lens, making strategic changes and optimizing my patients sleep, supplements, food choices, energy levels, cellular aging, and overall lifestyle.
I am passionate about the use of therapeutic peptides for my patients and established PeptideRx, which inspires individuals to be at their best through medical consulting and education on the use of therapeutic peptides for longevity, energy and performance.
What are you currently doing for hair health and care?
Many people think that hair health is an external thing - as a doctor I know healthy hair is an internal job:
B vitamins (especially Biotin, Vitamin B7).
Blood flow support - supporting NO (nitric oxide) with Nitric balance from APEX, with arginine and citrulline malate.
B12 and B9 - to address any macrocytic anemia. Poor oxygenation and circulation to tissues can absolutely impede hair growth.
Stress and adrenal support - stress can shunt blood to internal organs and away from the periphery, where our fingers and toes can get cold and our hair grows! If we can't stop the stress, we can support the adrenals and the body BETTER in the midst of stress.
Collagen supplements - enough quality protein in the diet is hard to do for most people. There are different types of collagen. Type 1 and 3 are good for hair skin and nails. Type 2 and 4 are good for joints and connective tissue. Find a supplement that has Type 2 & 4 if you want to promote hair growth and stronger, longer nails.
Peptides - I use several peptides for beauty and healthy hair, skin and nails take growth hormone analogs which help to boost my growth hormone levels to promote skin regeneration, hair growth, muscle recovery and overall, slower aging.
External - Lots of nourishing conditioner because curly hair tends to be more dry.
Are you using any natural hair products (if yes, what are they and what do you like or not like about them)? What works well for you and what doesn’t?
Yes, I like argan oil for my hair on the ends and a natural leave-in conditioner.
I also have a biotin frizz taming product and conditioner from Giovanni that are both amazing.
I advise not to put the argan oil or frizz taming oil-based product on the roots - it makes your hairline look greasy and you have to wash your hair more often.
What do you like about your hair and what has taken some time for you to accept about your hair?
My hair is naturally curly, and I have worn it both curly and straight for different periods of my life.
What I love is that I can wear it both ways -- easily! Girls with straight hair sometimes have a hard time making their hair curl.
Curls are great near the ocean air, but straightening hair doesn't work well with humidity and misty ocean fog.
What are some helpful tips you can share with other readers?
Looking at functional labs, a stool panel and a micronutrient panel can tell you about major nutritional deficiencies that impact hair.
Absorption and anemia are issues to address with hair thinning or greying.
Nutritional and supplemental support combined with PRP hair restoration injections is a great combo for hair loss.
Consulting a functional or naturopathic doctor is the first person you should go to with hair loss - your hair dresser won't know how to best help you with internal medicine root causes!
Please share something different, interesting, or funny about yourself.
I haven't really watched TV in more than 10 years. I have watched very few movies. I love to read, learn and play outside instead of sitting more after working all day.
I am a biohacker at heart. I am always fascinated by what I can do to improve my sleep, mood, energy and performance. And then I get the privilege of teaching other others to do the same.
