Featuring Jamie Valenta
What is your name?
Jamie Valenta
How old are you?
42 rotations around the sun!
Where are you from?
Born and raised on a farm in NW Washington and have lived in beautiful Bellingham for over 23 years now.
What is your background?
I was in the banking corporate world for 13 years and am now in the creative industry full-time. I’m a wedding, portrait, and travel photographer (Jamie V Photography) and I also work at a local film production company (Soulcraft Allstars).
In a few sentences, tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do.
I travel a few months of the year and I love anything creative, yoga, reading, music, and being in nature.
What are you currently doing for hair health and care?
I only wash my hair 2-3 times a week and always air dry.
I start by conditioning from the nape of my neck to the ends and combing through, then shampoo and another round of conditioning. I finish off with cool shower rinse to keep the frizz down (and wake up my body!)
Are you using any natural hair products (if yes, what are they and what do you like or not like about them)?
I currently use True Botanicals Shampoo and Conditioner - it’s been my favorite natural combo that I’ve tried (and I’ve experimented with a lot of different “natural” products!)
I’d love to find a bar of natural shampoo and/or conditioner to cut down on plastic pump/bottle waste.
I also use Goop Beauty Himalayan Salt Scrub every week or two for a good scalp cleaning and to keep any flakes at bay.
For a luxury wellness treat, I love Shirodhara hot coconut oil and massage treatment (I go to my friend’s spa - Kara’s Beauty Barn in Bellingham)
What works well for you and what doesn’t?
I schedule hair trims every 4-5 months and get highlights to complement the grey “highlights” that are slowly but surely coming in.
I used to have really thin, stick-straight hair - my mom spent hundreds of $$ on perms back in the day!
My hair is much wavier and thicker than it used to be - and it feels like I’m constantly detangling knots below the base of my neck. My hair now gets very frizzy in humid climates, which is new.
Although I’ve had stints of perms, layers, and high-hairsprayed bangs, my hairstyle actually hasn’t changed much over my lifetime!
